Taito, Tokyo, Japan - June 9, 2026: A large dark stone serves as an open-air urinal for men beside a building in Asakusa, Tokyo. A small metal water spout is fitted near the top of the polished boulder, and a metal drain grate runs along its base. A blue sign with a men's pictogram hangs on a stone post at the entrance, next to a low wooden gate with bamboo panels. A tall bamboo screen stands on the right, and shrubs, rocks and grasses surround the stall. Flat stepping stones lead up to it through a bed of gravel. Public toilets in Tokyo are kept clean throughout the city, and some of them are custom designs by architects.
