Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan - June 11, 2026: The Tokagakudo Music Hall stands among trees in the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Its octagonal walls carry large tile mosaics in blue, violet and gold, one panel showing a sun above a slender white spire, under a green copper roof with scalloped edges and a tall finial. A low white annex with a dark tiled roof and a railed terrace sits in front of the hall, and a traditional-style building with a green roof stands to the right. Office towers rise behind the garden, while a lawn and large flat stones fill the foreground. The hall was completed in 1966 to mark the 60th birthday of Empress Kojun, consort of Emperor Showa, and its name, meaning Peach Blossom Music Hall, refers to her peach emblem. Designed by architect Kenji Imai, the building was shaped to evoke a clematis flower, and its mosaics express different themes such as the four seasons. Court musicians of the Imperial Household Agency have performed Western classical concerts there, attended by members of the Imperial Family.
