Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan - June 11, 2026: Massive, precisely cut stone blocks form a sloping wall in the gardens of the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda, Tokyo. The blocks fit tightly against one another with narrow joints, and the largest stones sit at the angled corner, where they lock together in alternating rows. Dark vertical streaks of weathering run down the face of the stones. A pruned pine tree grows from the top of the wall, its layered branches spreading against a white sky. Dense green trees fill the background on the right, and a wide paved surface stretches along the foot of the wall. The Imperial Palace stands on the site of the former Edo Castle.
