Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan - June 11, 2026: Two people walk past a towering wall of massive, precisely cut stone blocks in the gardens of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The blocks fit tightly against one another with thin, straight joints, and the corner of the wall rises at a steep slant above the gravel ground. Dark streaks of weathering run down the reddish-brown stone faces. A pruned pine tree grows from the top of the wall, its layered branches spreading against a white sky. Dense green trees fill the background to the right, behind a low barrier at the edge of the open gravel area. The two visitors, seen from behind, walk side by side close to the base of the wall, which dwarfs them.
