Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan - June 11, 2026: A massive wall of precisely cut stone blocks rises beside a curving paved path in the garden of the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda, Tokyo. The large granite-like blocks fit tightly against one another without visible mortar, their edges cut straight and at angles so that each stone locks into its neighbours. The surface shifts between grey, brown and rust tones, and small plants grow from the joints between the stones. A low trimmed hedge runs along the foot of the wall, following the bend of the path in the foreground. Pine trees and dense greenery rise above the top of the wall. The Imperial Palace stands on the site of the former Edo Castle in central Tokyo.
