A hedgehog lies curled into a tight ball beside a small skeleton on ground covered with fallen leaves. Its cream and dark brown spines point in every direction and hide the head and legs. At the lower edge of the ball, a pale, weathered skull rests on the leaves with a thin bone next to it. Dry brown, rust and gray leaves cover the soil, many of them torn or pierced with holes. Broad green leaves and dark ivy with pale veins close in from the sides and corners of the frame, while bare, gravelly soil shows at the upper right.
