Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan - June 9, 2026: A woman with red hair walks across a paved plaza toward a group of young men gathered around a bronze statue in Nishi-Waseda, Shinjuku, Tokyo. Most of the group wear white shirts, dark trousers and backpacks, and stand in loose circles at the foot of the stone pedestal. The statue shows a standing figure in a long robe and a square academic cap, holding a cane. Other pedestrians cross the plaza on both sides, one carrying a closed umbrella and another a white tote bag. Leafy trees frame the scene under an overcast sky, with a tall beige building behind the statue and a construction site marked with a TODA sign and a green safety cross in the background.
