A thin crescent moon hangs in a gray-violet sky, framed by the bare branches of a tree. Fine twigs dotted with small buds stay in sharp focus across the upper left of the frame and reach toward the moon as dark silhouettes. Thicker branches cross the foreground as heavy black bands and fill the lower part of the picture. Other out-of-focus limbs dissolve into pale gray streaks that overlap on the right. Open sky surrounds the crescent, the only bright shape in the frame, and its lit edge curves toward the lower right.
