Tall columns rise from a floor of rubble and broken stone slabs inside an abandoned former church in Kutahya, Turkey. Slender arches curve out from the column heads and meet a vaulted ceiling lined with narrow boards. At the upper right, part of the ceiling has given way, and splintered boards hang around an opening that lets in daylight. Arched windows and a doorway at the back of a domed recess cut bright shapes into the dark walls, which show long cracks and patches of lost plaster. To the right, a slanted block of plastered masonry lies broken on a heap of stones.
